Night of Light

God is moving at Mission First. On the night of October 10, our medical and dental clinics as well as our legal aid office held an appreciation event, called Night of Light, to honor those who faithfully serve our community through Mission First. Testimonies were shared by a few who have been directly impacted by the ministries on our campus. A mother has been reunited with her children through the help of our legal clinic. A man is able to regain some of his strength and mobility after a stroke with the help of physical therapy. The testimony of God's faithfulness and provision was seen in the stories shared by those impacted by Mission First.

During this night, we were also able to thank our Clinic Volunteers of the Year. These volunteers give of their time, knowledge, gifts and talents all for the glory of God. He is doing amazing things through those who are being the hands and feet of Jesus.

The idea for Night of Light came from one of our staff physicians, Dr. Anna Lovett. She wanted a time to be able to shine a light on our clinic’s work in the community while keeping the reason of service at the forefront. Dr. Lovett stated, “Night of Light provides a glimpse of God’s transforming power as the light of Christ shines into the dark, broken places of Jackson, Mississippi, through Mission First’s medical, dental, and legal aid services. We celebrate what God is doing in and through all who serve with Mission First and invite others to join with us.”

Mission First has had the privilege of serving 951 clients in our legal clinic in 2017 alone, 903 medical patients, and 466 dental patients this year. We are filled with gratitude that the Lord continues to bless these ministries and that we get to be a part of His Kingdom work.

Jesus, the Light of the world, came to serve. As Christ followers, we are called to serve, as well, and to point others to Him. John 8:12 says “Jesus spoke to them again: ‘I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.’”

May we boldly share the light of the world with those around us each day.
