Sixth Annual Puttin', Poppin', & Rockin' Celebration

On May 1st, Mission First held its annual spring fundraiser. What started out as Neighborhood Christian Center's Pickin’ and Paddlin’ Outdoor Festival in 2006, has transformed into Mission First’s Puttin’, Poppin’, & Rockin’. Pickin’ and Paddlin’ Outdoor Festival was a fun event at Mayes Lake in LeFleur's Bluff State Park with canoe races, games and other activities for kids, a 5K run through the woods, and a barbeque lunch.

As the years went on and Peyton’s House was added, and with a desire for an event that was not so labor intensive or completely dependent upon the weather, the fundraiser morphed into Pickin’, Poppin’, and Rockin’. People would be able to enjoy this event come rain or shine. Changes included various kinds of music to incorporate the “pickin’” aspect of the fundraiser title. Attendees enjoyed bluegrass and zydeco music.

When the merger took place with Mission First, Neighborhood Christian Center, and Peyton’s House, the spring fundraiser saw another change. With it being called Puttin’, Poppin’, & Rockin’, a golf tournament was now part of the overall fundraiser. We are grateful to board member Johnny Ray, for organizing the golf tournament for the past 2 years. To cap off the fundraiser, we had our Puttin’, Poppin’, & Rockin’ Celebration at Duling Hall complete with live music from The Pryor Band, delicious food from Fresh Cut, and a silent auction. Our very own, Rafael Jackson, performed 2 songs with his musical group "The Seed." Thanks to board member Pamela Houchins, we had a wide variety of items to bid on and win including gift cards, jewelry, art work, and trips. We are thankful to the auction donors for each item given for this event.

The 2018 Puttin’, Poppin’, & Rockin’ event was a success with over $75,000 raised for the ministries of Mission First. Because of generous sponsors and donors, we are continuing the work the Lord called us to - spreading the good news of the Gospel to the metro-Jackson area. The Holy Spirit is working on our campuses. Titus 3:5-7 - "He saved us - not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to His mercy - through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit. He poured out His Spirit on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior so that, having been justified by His grace, we may become heirs with the hope of eternal life."
